Chatancheon Trail
Chatancheon Trail is a section stretched over 9.9 kilometers from Yeoncheon-eup to Jeongok-eup. It is the perfect place to enjoy columnar joints in Yongam Gorge with clean water. Chatancheon Stream is of great academic value as it offers the history of the earth from gneiss in the Pre-Cambrian period to the folding in the Cretaceous Period, the sedimentary layer of pebbles deposited by stream movement in the early Cenozoic era (Baekuiri Layer), and the columnar joints formed by volcanic activity in the late Cenozoic Era. In addition, there are many important geoscientific points such as plains, winding streams, columnar joints, plateau joints, lava dams, V-shaped canyons, waterfalls, vertical cliffs, and Baekuiri Layer in the lava region that are not easily found in other rivers. All of these places offer excellent conditions for tourists who wish to explore geology as they are highly accessible along the trail.
