The Imjingang River is the seventh largest river in Korea. Rising in Duryusan Mountain in Deokwon-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do, North Korea, it flows 254km southwestward to join the Hangang River in Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do Province. Then, it enters Yeoncheon-gun in Yeocheok-ri, Jung-myeon, North Korea, where it flows beautifully in the shape of taegeuk from Hoengsan-ri, Jung-myeon, and Gangnae-ri, Wangjing-myeon. It, then, reaches Dogampo, Namgye-ri, Gunnam-myeon to join the Hantangang River.

The name of the Imjingang River originates from “Imjinnaru” in Yulgok-ri, Papyeong-myeon, Paju-gun. Its name often differs depending on the region as it flows throughout Paju-si, Dongducheon-si, Yangju-gun, Yeoncheon-gun, Pocheon-gun and Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do. The inside of the Imjingang River is a vertical cliff, making it difficult to cross except for a few ferries such as Jingpa-naru, Gorangpo-naru, and Imjin-naru.

As the Imjingang River flows from the north to the south, it is often cited when talking about the tragic division of the country. The number of tourists visiting the river continues to rise due to the large number of cultural historic sites that were created around the river as well as its clean water and beautiful scenery. In particular, the Imjingang River is frequented by anglers due to its proximity to Seoul. In July and August, it is difficult to fish with fishing lure as many people come visit to enjoy water sports, but once the rainy season passes and the water level stabilizes, it is fun to go bamboo fishing, pole-and-line fishing, and turban shell catching as well as fishing with lure.
