The Infiltration Point of the Blue House Raid, located 3.5 kilometers to the southwest of Gorangpo, is where Kim Sin-jo and 30 other guerrillas of the 124th North Korean Army infiltrated the southern limit line on Jan. 17, 1968 at 11:00 p.m. North Korea’s Kim Sin-jo and 30 other armed guerrillas attempted to infiltrate Seoul on January 21, 1968 to bomb the presidential residence (Cheongwadae), assassinate key figures, and destroy key facilities. However, a woodcutter living in Beopjeong-ri, Paju filed a report at around 9:00 p.m. on January 19, 1968, and a joint military-police operation was carried out from January 20 to January 30, 1968, resulting in 29 casualties, 1 escape, and one apprehension (Kim Sin-jo). However, the military and police of South Korea also suffered significant damage.
Currently, the Infiltration Point of the Blue House Raid displays models of armed guerrillas who infiltrated through wire fences and barbed wire installed by the security unit of the 2nd Infantry Division of the United States Army that was stationed here at the time. As of October 1, 1999, the military unit concerned partially eased access control to the northern area of the Civilian Control Line, allowing visitors to take a tour of the area through prior application.
