Imjingang Columnar Joints in Yeoncheon are located at 67-1, Dongi-ri, Misan-myeon. From Hapsumeori (Dogampo), where the Imjingang River and the Hantangang River meet, to the north, beautiful vertical columnar joints are developed over several kilometers along the Imjingang River.

During the mid-Diluvian Age, lava that erupted north of Cheorwon formed a large lava plateau in Cheorwon-Yeoncheon area. After the volcanic activity, the lava plateau was eroded by the river, creating a geometric form of basalt columnar joints along the river.

Imjingang Columnar Joints cover a section that passes the 11th course of Pyeonghwa Nurigil Trail (Imjinjeokbyeokgil Trail) of DMZ trekking trails. It offers excellent scenery for those who walk along the Imjingang River, and during the season in which the cosmos bloom, the maple-leaf mukdenia and cosmos combine to create a breath-taking view. In the past, the landscape was famous throughout the country as Jangdan Cliff that belonged to “8 Songdo Scenic Views” which referred to 8 famous scenic spots in Kaesong.
