The Sunguijeon Shrine Site in Yeoncheon is a de facto royal tomb of Goryeo that enshrined ancestral tablets
for 4 kings of Goryeo (Taejo, Hyeonjong, Munjong, and Wonjong) as well as 16 meritorious retainers of
Goryeo. This is where ancestral rites are held every spring and autumn.
Sunguijeon Shrine first began to serve its role as the statue of Taejo of Goryeo was relocated to Angamsa
Temple in Majeon from the royal tomb of Goryeo in Kaesong in the first year reign of King Taejo. A 500-year
old zelkova tree overlooks Sunguijeon Shrine in front of the outer three gates of the shrine.
The Goryeo Cultural Festival in Sunguijeon Hall is held around the first Sunday of October each year,
offering an excellent opportunity for visitors to explore the glorious culture of Goryeo.
