Yeoncheon’s Horogoruseong Fortress is located on the cliff of the Gorangpo Columnar Joints where visitors can observe the most beautiful scenery of Jangdan Cliff on Imjingang River. The Imjingang River here is a strategic hub through which the shortest-distance land traffic route linking Pyongyang and Seoul passes. People can walk across the Imjingang River during the dry season. Goguryeo established the border defense command in Horogoruseong Fortress, which oversaw the Imjingang River border.

Yeoncheon’s Dangposeong Fortress is a defensive fortress of Goguryeo that controls the important hubs of Danggaearu Port, a crossroad that bypasses directly from Yangju to Kaesong across the Imjingang River. As both sides of the fortress are high vertical cliffs, this fortress offers visitors the opportunity to observe the economic construction method of Goguryeo, which built an artificial fortress wall to the east where access is available due to its connection to the flat land to build a solid defensive fortress wall.

Yeoncheon’s Eundaeriseong Fortress is the largest fortress remains of Goguryeo in Korea. The fortress has a perimeter of about 1 kilometer and has a dual defense system with outer and inner walls. It is believed to have been used as a defensive stronghold to control strategic points at the neck of the rapids created as the Hantangang River and Chatancheon Stream converge and a stronghold in the rear during the southern advancement of Goguryeo.
